Abstract
This study explores strategies for sustaining indigenous languages in Indonesia, focusing on the importance of preserving ancestral heritage. Against the backdrop of rapid globalization and cultural homogenization, indigenous languages face a critical threat of extinction, endangering rich cultural diversity and historical legacies. The primary objective of this research is to investigate effective methods for maintaining and revitalizing local languages to ensure their survival for future generations. Employing a qualitative research approach, data is gathered through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of relevant literature. By examining the experiences and perspectives of language custodians, educators, and community leaders, this study aims to identify successful practices and challenges encountered in language preservation efforts. Preliminary findings suggest that integrating indigenous languages into formal education systems, fostering intergenerational transmission through cultural events and storytelling, and leveraging digital technologies for language documentation and dissemination are promising strategies. Moreover, community involvement and government support emerge as crucial factors in the sustainability of language revitalization initiatives. Through a holistic understanding of these methodologies and their implications, this research contributes to the discourse on preserving linguistic diversity and heritage in Indonesia, offering insights that can inform policy-making and community-based language revitalization efforts globally.
